متن کاملResearch on biodeterioration of wood, 1987–1992. I. Decay mechanisms and biocontrol
Growing concerns about the environment present an urgent need for new approaches to preserving wood. Some commonly used preservatives have been banned or restricted in several countries. Scientists at the Forest Products Laboratory , USDA Forest Service, are exploring new approaches for detecting and preventing wood decay. Progress in this ongoing research program is presented in two research p...
متن کاملBiodeterioration of Stone Monuments a Worldwide Issue
The biodegradation is a general action strictly linked in the presence of active organisms, and this is not only unavoidable but it represents a fundamental process of the Biosphere. When this process is acting on « valuable » objects, is named as Biodeterioration. The consequences surely produce a worse condition, and this process is particularly unfavourable when the object belongs to the Cul...
متن کاملNondestructive Elemental Analysis of Wood Biodeterioration Using Electron Paramagnetic Resonance and Synchrotrons X-ray Fluorescence
Over the last few years we have developed nondestructive methods for the elemental analysis of wood during biodeterioration by fungi. In this paper we review progress made in our laboratories on the multi-element analysis of wood using electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy and synchrotron-generated X-ray spectroscopy. The non-intrusive sample preparation and the nondestructive methods ha...
متن کاملGemini alkylammonium salts as biodeterioration inhibitors.
To protect materials against biodeterioration, physical, biological or chemical methods can be used. Chemical inhibitors of biodeterioration are the most common and effective. A new class of chemical inhibitors-gemini alkylammonium salts-shows excellent biocidal properties and good ecological profile. These compounds can be applied as biodeterioration inhibitors in a wide variety of materials.
